How Our Children Learn
Stanton Pre-School is Ofsted registered and, when inspected in November 2008, was found to be "good with outstanding features". Our dedicated Play Assistants follow the four themed principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage:
- A Unique Child
- Positive Relationships
- Enabling Environments
- Learning and Development
Each of these principles is supported by four commitments, which describe how the theme can be put into practice. Learning through play underpins the Early Years Foundation Stage.
In addition to the four themes, the Early Years Principles describe six key areas of Learning and Development:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Physical Development
- Creative Development
By supporting a child's development in all of these areas, we can equip them with the confidence they need upon reaching school age. For more information on the Early Years Foundation Stage principles, please speak to any member of staff.
We work alongside parents and carers to ensure the welfare, learning and all-round development of children with differing backgrounds and levels of ability, including those with special educational needs and disabilities. All children are assigned a trained "key worker", who will nurture the development of that child and compile a record of their "Learning Journey", along with parents and/or carers. Your child's key worker will help him or her to settle into the pre-school in the early days, and plan sessions that are designed specifically to encourage their continuing development and learning experience.
We have close links with the adjacent primary school, and organise sessions where the pre-school children can go through into the nursery to experience life on the other side of the door. Doing this makes the transition from pre-school to nursery to primary school reception class much less daunting.
